Recent Work on the Stiltner Line

Hi all,

I'm Margret Cowley Bond.  I grew up in St. Johns and am the granddaughter of Verner George Plumb and Sarah Janie Mackey, whose mother was Victoria Stiltner.    My Mom was Helen Janie Plumb Cowley 

I have been working on Jacob R. Stiltner family

     
Jacob R. Stiltner  (1850-1934)        
Susannah Breeding  (1847-1921)

These are the records I have compiled through Ancestry Family Trees, Census, and Virginia birth and death records on familysearch.  I have added full dates to the birth records information.

Susannah states she has given birth to 10 children and 6 are living in both the 1900 and 1910 Census.  If we combine Mahalee and Jane, I still have 11 children.  Jacob can't read or write as he marks his draft registrations with an "x" and states he can't read or write.

 George Stiltner (13 Apr 1875 -) record says George Stiltoner, Male, Buchanan, Virginia, born to Jacob and Susan Stiltoner.

 Charles B. Stiltner  (March 1876-1947)  He is in many family trees on ancestry.com.
            
          
 Drewry of Drewsy Stiltner  (17 May 1878-)  Male born to J.R. and Susanna Stiltner  2 birth records with separate spellings

Ida Belle Stiltner  (May 1879-)  this is according to a family tree on Ancestry.   
       
      
       
 Jackson S. Stiltner  (19 December 1880-1946) Male born to Jacob R. and Susan Stiltner---so maybe Jacob R didn't name his son Milburn Jackson!!!

 Mahalee Stiltner  (Jul 1885-) Birth record for Martha J Stiltner born (1 July 1885 -) to Jacob R and Susan Stiltner.  I think Mahalee, Martha J. and Jane Owens, are the same person.  What do you think????  
       
 Wilson Stiltner  (3 May 1887-) born to Jacob R and Susanah Stiltner    
       
 Jane Stiltner  (1888-)   from 1910 Census, Jane Owens, daughter divorced living with Jackson and Susan.  
       
 Isaac Stiltner  (28 May 1889-)     
       
 July Stiltner  (born 9 July 1891-27 November 1894)   Female born to Jacob and Suson Stiltner.  Spelled Juley in Death record also says she is 2 years old, born in 1892, daughter of Jacob and Suson Stiltner.)  Need to look at original records to verify birth date due to discrepancy in year.

       
 Bessie Angeline Stiltner  (1895-1975).  I have exchanged info with her granddaughter on Ancestry

If we eliminate the Jane born in 1888, we have 11 children.  Oh, the mystery ---any ideas????  I did combine Mahalee and Jane as one person.  Do you think I should add him.  Does anyone know how we got their marriage date?  I just want to get this family to the Temple.

I think Mahalee & Martha J born 1 Jul 1885 maybe the same person. I question Jane because 1900 census states her birth date as Nov 1888.

I, too, had checked out family trees on ancestry.  I have been in contact with a Stiltner cousin via email that isn't a member of the Church.

She is a granddaughter of Bessie Stiltner.  She had some dates we didn't have because not all the children had birth records.  I'd love to find someone in Buchanan County, Virginia that would check out cemeteries for us.  It would be a job because there are tons of Stiltner's in Buchanan County and they have intermarried looking at marriage records.

My Grandmother was Sarah Janie Mackey and her mother was a Stiltner.  Janie, which is what she was called married Verner George Plumb, brother to Geneva.  Pressman Moses Plumb, son of John Henry Plumb, married Unissa Mackey, younger sister to Janie, so several of the Plumbs doing genealogy work on the Stiltner line.  I forgot you that the Stilner's weren't part of your line.
